Leveraging KEA! to streamline the flow of
information.
KEA!s automation features aim to enhance productivity by streamlining business
practices, which translates into dramatic reductions in the soft costs that make up the
majority of software ownership expenses for most organizations. Configuration and installation made easy.
Configuring and distributing KEA! is simple and straightforward. Its administrative
install feature centralizes control of configuration and distribution at the fingertips of
network administrators saving them costly and time consuming trips to end-user
desktops. Custom configurations can be defined for cross-network installation on a
per-seat, per-workgroup or per enterprise basis. And end users need not intervene during
installation thanks to an unattended install, which shields users from impertinent dialog
boxes. In this way, KEA! also aids in keeping help desk traffic and thus, costs
at a minimum. Support for Microsofts uninstaller application makes for safe
and disruption-free removal of KEA!. Finally, a Windows 95-style configuration wizard
makes connecting to new hosts easy, even for novice users.
Customizable toolbars and menus.
KEA!s toolbars and menus lend themselves to nearly limitless customization. Create
custom toolbar icons. Add a new menu to the menu bar, or add a command to an existing
menu. Even add a submenu to an existing menu. Thanks to these customization opportunities,
IT organizations retain complete control over which features are available via KEA!s
toolbars and menus.
SmartPads.
Beyond toolbars and menus, SmartPads offer another one-click way to interact with the host
application. Displaying pre-defined buttons, SmartPads can appear either on the status bar
or in an independent window. SmartPad buttons are fully configurable with respect to
width, appearance and location. Create application - specific SmartPads to enrich host
application functionality. Map SmartPad buttons to terminal functions, macros and menu
commands as well as to other SmartPads.
OLE Automation.
Full OLE compliance means that programmatic control can be exercised over KEA!s
discrete objects from within OLE automation-enabled development environments like Visual
Basic. This makes for rapid development of custom applications that incorporate the
built-in functionality of KEA! objects. For example, when building an application for
transferring files, the file transfer functionality inherent in KEA!s VT Session
object can be utilized rather than coding that functionality from scratch. OLE automation
can improve the productivity of your environment by empowering developers to easily
incorporate data provided by KEA! into GUI front ends that streamline workflow patterns.
Front-ending with APIs
Another way in which KEA! simplifies front-ending is through the support of numerous APIs
including HLLAPI, WinHLLAPI and Attachmates Enterprise Access Library , which
comprises over sixty communications interface function calls. With these and other APIs,
its easy for developers to build custom graphical front-ends to legacy applications
using familiar, industry-standard tools like Visual Basic®, Visual C++® and
PowerBuilder®.
KEA! macro language.
The KEA! macro language makes it unnecessary for users to memorize and manually enter
complex sequences of commands. Instead, those commands can be incorporated into a
single macro assigned to a key, menu command, toolbar button or SmartPad button for
one-click execution.
Either record KEA! macros, or write, edit and debug them in the feature-rich macro
editor. Macros can execute tasks including choosing menu commands, interacting with dialog
boxes, and calling program functions as well as other macros. Schedule KEA! macros to run
automatically at off-peak times whether on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
with the KEA! Macro Scheduler.
Integrate data into your document automatically.
Leverage KEA!s OLE support to create transparent connections between desktop and
host documents that allow users to dynamically link host data to Windows applications. No
programming or macros required.
File transfers easier than ever.
KEA!s intuitive File Shuttle
Utility makes transferring numerous files in either direction easier than ever. And now,
you can save file transfer lists for convenient reuse in future sessions.
Multi-session support.
Connect to multiple hosts, multiple applications on the same host or multiple applications
across multiple hosts all at the same time. From KEA!s convenient New Session
Wizard, each session can be configured differently with respect to connection, session,
and file transfer types. Position multiple display sessions on the desktop and save them
as a layout which, in turn, can be associated with a shortcut on the desktop for one-click
launching.
Programmable keyboard mapping.
Quickly and easily map keys to host
sequences, macros, or menu commands via an intuitive interface.
Automatic default Telnet designation.
During installation, youre given the option to let KEA! automatically designate
itself as the default Telnet application for your browser. As a result, whenever you visit
a web page requiring Telnet capabilities, your web browser launches KEA! automatically.o
Compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Server.
KEA! is compatible with Microsoft Windows Terminal Server, Citrix® WinFrame
1.7 and Citrix MetaFrame. Clients supported by these multi-user systems can access KEA! on
the server and exploit all its features, even though its not installed locally.
Further, such centralization does away with the need to manage KEA! at the desktop.
TCP/IP support featuring FTP
client and server.
KEA! includes a complete set of TCP/IP utilities for the 32-bit Windows environment. Its
FTP client allows users to quickly and easily transfer files between hosts and the desktop
using a drag-and-drop interface. Integrated LPR support provides seamless access to
printers on UNIX-based networks and other systems that support TCP/IP print services. A
personal FTP server and print server (LPD) are also included, allowing a Windows user to
share local files and printers with other TCP/IP-based computers. Other TCP/IP utilities
included are PING, Finger, Traceroute, and Whois giving administrators the ability
to centrally troubleshoot any TCP/IP networking issues.
Lowering overhead with centralized management.
The centralized management facilities in KEA! help reduce the administrative
overhead of costly, time-consuming trips to end-user desktops. With the included KEA!
Management Console, configuration, distribution, installation, upgrades, inventory and
usage and license metering of KEA! clients can be performed from a centrally located,
easy-to-use graphical interface.
