CONNX® product technology to include OLEDBCONNX's new OLEDB Adapter Module provides users with instant access to all of their enterprise data sources through a single interface 4th April 2000 Generix Limited today announced the latest technology evolution for CONNX from SolutionsIQ, the data access middleware product. Featuring the addition of an OLEDB-based Adapter Module for OLEDB and ODBC data sources, CONNX 8.2 now supports any SQL based data source that has an existing ODBC driver or OLEDB provider. CONNX functions as a single, master data access engine that gives PC users instant access to all of their enterprise data sources through a single interface. Because CONNX presents data from multiple sources as if it existed in one relational database, it provides IT staff and developers with a simple, secure, highly functional way of accessing their enterprise data. It can be used as a cost-effective tool to develop applications, migrate data, manage metadata, integrate data/applications, and make the data available to the non-IT end users. In addition to support for OLEDB and ODBC data sources, CONNX also supports native access to DB2, Digital RMS, Digital DBMS, Oracle Rdb, Oracle RDBMS on all platforms, and DataFlex/PowerFlex. The CONNX OLEDB Adapter Module will support those data sources for which a native CONNX module does not exist. More than 3,000 organisations worldwide use CONNX products to reduce the development time and maintenance costs associated with using disparate databases. "Businesses today recognise the critical need to integrate their patchwork data and operational systems, especially when a corporate merger or acquisition is involved, because they are dependent on the ability to deliver meaningful information to their customers and clients," said Jon-Jacques Umphrey, product manager for CONNX. CONNX delivers a solution to companies in real time and without expensive programming or disruption to existing systems. It is the only product that can unify information from all of an enterprise's multiple data sources into one virtual database, so an organisation can instantaneously analyse all of its data, regardless of its origin. "The CONNX OLEDB Adapter Module is a natural extension for SolutionsIQ," said Umphrey. "There are many databases on the market that do not have a large user base, but are still mission critical to the organisations that use them. The CONNX OLEDB Adapter Module ensures that every ODBC or OLEDB data source that a company has can be integrated into the CONNX virtual database." Because of the CONNX Common Data Dictionary®, CONNX allows end users to use their tool of choice to access data, and have it instantly presented as if it were all coming from a single, enterprise spanning, relational database. The Data Dictionary contains metadata about the source information and provides a GUI (Graphical User Interface) screen for easy management of metadata, security and views. CONNX not only respects existing database security, it provides an additional level of security through individual user, group, row, field and table security options. Additionally, the CONNX Data Dictionary is encrypted to secure sensitive information. CONNX is currently available for DB2, Digital RMS, Digital DBMS, Oracle Rdb, Oracle RDBMS on all platforms, SQL Server, and DataFlex/PowerFlex. Support for Sybase, Informix, CISAM and VSAM databases is scheduled for later this year. CONNX is a registered trademark of SolutionsIQ. All other trademarks are acknowledged. |
