Does VSI-FAX Gold Support Office 97?
Yes. VSI-FAX Gold Series, release 3.0.06a or higher, supports Office 97. There was one
problem with table alignment in Word97 that was encountered. This problem does not appear
in the current version of Word97. For older versions, make sure you are running Service
Level 1 or higher. See http://www.microsoft.com/office/office97/servicerelease/ for
downloading information.

Will the Gold installation destroy my existing 2.1 directory?
No. The Gold installation directory is a separate entity from the existing 2.1 directory.
The upgrade will, however, derive the configuration and license information from Release
2.1. It will install in a separate area and will not, in any way, remove or destroy the
2.1 directories.

Can I send a fax without having access to the UNIX shell?
Yes. You can do this by using the autosend directory feature. The autosend directory is
specifically intended to be used for automatic fax processing when users do not have
access to the UNIX shell and, therefore, are not able to submit a fax request from the
command line. Users can deposit files in this 'autosend' directory for automatic
transmission. The Fax Scheduler vfaxcmd daemon polls this directory every five seconds.
However, the file or files that are to be transmitted must have a TAG or BAT file
extension, and adhere to certain specifications outlined in the VSI-FAX Gold
Administrators Guide.

Are licenses floating or assigned to a user?
VSI-FAX Gold Client Licenses are assigned to a specific user. Licenses are not floating or
concurrent user based. Licenses are stored on the server and are allocated whenever a
client connects to the server and has an IP address different than that of the server.

How much disk space does VSI-FAX consume after installation?
VSI-FAX Gold consumes approximately 40MB of available disk space after installation.
Received faxes are stored on the server and, therefore, will consume more disk space
during product usage. A normal fax size is approximately 45k bytes per page.

Are the software and hardware for VSI-FAX Gold different from Release 2.1?
One critical diffference between the two releases is the requirement for TCP/IP
communications, even if there are no network clients installed. VSI-FAX Gold is a true
client/server application and uses TCP/IP sockets to perform communications among the
server and the clients. VSI-FAX Gold also has additional faxmodem support and is not
limited exclusively to Multitech faxmodems. VSI-FAX Gold operates on a slightly different
set of Unix platforms and Operating System versions than Release 2.1.

Why are 'tiff' files being left in my C:\vsiwin\work directory on my PC?
These files are used by the VSI-FAX for Windows viewer. The viewer keeps the last ten
faxes viewed for caching purposes. These files may be removed manually since they can be
reloaded from the server.

Can I convert VSI-FAX 2.1 phonebook alias files into VSI-FAX Gold
phonebooks?
Yes. You must manually export the 2.1 phonebook and re-import into the VSI-FAX Gold phone
book database. The exported data from the 2.1 phonebook must be in a comma delimited
format. The position of the fields must correspond to the field locations in the VSI-FAX
Gold phone book database.
